Stardew Valley – How to Get Fiber - Gamer Empire (2024)

One of the most important resources in Stardew Valley is Fiber. Though it might not sound like something most players would want to collect, farmers will need this if they want their crops to prosper.

Unfortunately, you won’t know how much you need Fiber until after you managed to clear your farm of weeds and sold hundreds of Fiber at the Shipping Bin.

What to Do With Fiber

Fiber might not seem incredibly important when you first start playing Stardew Valley, but it becomes more and more relevant the further you get.

For example, Hay is an incredibly important item in the game since you need it to feed your animals.

However, you can only get Hay either by purchasing it from Marnie’s Ranch or by cutting tall grass.

Tall grass will randomly grow on your farm, but you can’t control it. Luckily, you can buy a recipe from Pierre’s for Grass Starter, which is a patch of grass that slowly grows and envelops your farm.

This allows you to personally grow grass and, as a result, Hay as well. To craft Grass Starter, you will need 10 Fiber.

In Stardew Valley, crows will occasionally eat your crops if you don’t place Scarecrows. To craft Scarecrows, you will need 20 Fiber.

Fiber has many uses for farmers in the game, so you will need to get a lot of it and store it in your chests for later use. But how do you get Fiber?

How to Get Fiber in Stardew Valley

There are three ways to reliably get Fiber in Stardew Valley:

  • Cut Weeds
  • Grow Fiber Seeds
  • Trade Stone at the Desert Trader

Cutting Weeds

The most common way to collect and get Fiber in Stardew Valley is to cut Weeds. Every time you cut down Weeds, using any tool in your inventory, you have a 50% chance to get Fiber.

The best tool to use is the Scythe due to its speed and efficiency, and you can easily find a ton of Weeds around the farm. The tall grass that gives you Hay isn’t the same as Weeds.

Weeds look like crops that grow on single tiles, while tall grass spreads faster and has little flowers in the grass.

Usually, most players clear out the Weeds in the first few days at the start of the game. Even though some new ones spawn around the farm, you will usually take care of them too fast to make a lot of Fiber.

This is why the best location to cut Weeds and get Fiber in Stardew Valley is the Mines. Specifically, floors 25 to 29 and levels 81 to 109. These floors have a “jungle” theme which spawns a lot of Weeds.

Since you can just restart the dungeon and get new map layouts each time you exit the Mines, you can just go down to floor 25, reach 30, get out, and start again to spawn an absurd amount of Weeds you can cut down for Fiber.

This way, you can just cut Weeds on your farm without any worry and just head to the Mines for some quick dungeon exploring for some Fiber since there is an abundance of Weeds just magically spawning there.

Harvesting Fiber Seeds

If you are a farmer who prefers to control their resources, then Fiber Seeds might be an amazing solution for you.

These seeds will grow in 7 days and can be harvested for 4 to 7 Fiber. You won’t have to water them and they even grow in the Winter.

Unfortunately, Fiber Seeds aren’t something you can just buy from Pierre or JojaMart, as you would with all other seeds.

To get Fiber Seeds, you will need to complete a special order for Linus, where you have to throw 20 trash items into the bin at the train station.

Special orders are unique missions that tend not to repeat, similar to the ones on the Help Wanted board, where you have to complete relatively big orders for some of the villagers in Pelican Town.

These special orders become available on Fall 2, when you get a cutscene that the special orders board has been placed in front of mayor Lewis’ mansion.

The special orders that appear on the board are random, so you can’t get Linus’ request whenever you want it. You will have to check the board every week to see if the order has appeared.

Just fish in shallow waters or at the farm since you have a high chance of catching trash there and easily complete the order when you get it.

Once you do, you will get a recipe to craft Fiber Seeds for Mixed Seeds, Sap, and Clay.

Luckily, there is a decent chance of getting Mixed Seeds when you cut Weeds, so by completing the previous step, you get closer to growing your own Fiber on the farm without having to go all the way to the Mines to grind.

Trading Stone for Fiber

The Calico Desert is one of the best locations in Stardew Valley since you gain access to the Skull Cavern, and you also get to meet the Desert Trader.

The trader is very useful to players who are looking for Fiber since they can just trade in one of the easiest-to-get resources and get what they want.

On Tuesdays, the Desert Trader will give players 1 Fiber for 5 Stone. This is a really good trade for you since you lose nothing but the time it takes you to reach the Desert for this deal.

To unlock Calico Desert, you will just need to complete the Vault Community Center Bundles that appear after you complete your first four bundles.

This one might be one of the easiest bundle collections to complete in the Community Center since you just need to donate money.

It is very similar to the way you get all the upgrades if you join JojaMart. After giving around 40k gold, the bus will now be fixed, allowing you to head to the Desert whenever you want for a small fee of 500 gold.

That’s everything you need to know about how to get Fiber in Stardew Valley!
